Kampala, Uganda – East Africa / March 7, 2016
Chief Justice Bart Katureebe spoke tough during the pre-hearing conference of the presidential election petition filed by former presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi, challenging the presidential election results. He cautioned lawyers and media houses against discussing the petition in a matter that is prejudicial to the court proceedings that have began. Meanwhile, one of Mbabazi’s lawyers Asuman Basalirwa said 13 of Mbabazi’s witnesses had been arrested. Court asked the Attorney General to ensure that security agencies don’t interfere with the court process.
