Twinobusingye Severino Vs Attorney General of Uganda, Constitutional Petition No. 47 of 2011 is a locus classicus in jurisprudence where he (Twinobusingye) secured an injunction against the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda for the first time in the history of Uganda. The said decision also defined parameters for the separation of powers.
Twinobusingye challenged a decision by the Parliament of Uganda, which wanted to investigate claims of bribery in the oil sector. The Parliament had asked Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and Ministers Sam Kutesa and Hillary Onek to “step aside” due to allegations of accepting bribes from foreign oil companies. This case is known as Twinobusingye Severino Vs Attorney General of Uganda, Constitutional Petition No. 47 of 2011. The court awarded Twinobusingye 13 billion Ugandan Shillings (approximately 3.6 million US dollars) in legal fees.
