Lawyers of President Yoweri Museveni have asked court to dismiss with costs the case in which former presidential Candidate Amama Mbabazi is challenging the victory of the ruling party candidate in the 2016 polls. Didas Nkurunziza, the lead lawyer, claims the petitioner lacks cogent and credible evidence to support the claim that Museveni was unduly elected. However, lawyer Kiryowa Kiwanuka who is also part of the president’s legal team spent the better part of the morning defending the Electoral Commission which according to the Chief Justice, Bart Katureebe was overstepping his mandate. In his defence, Kiwanuka said any indictment on the Electoral Commission would have a huge bearing on the validity of Museveni’s reelection.

Mbabazi Petition: Supreme Court to rule on “Friends of the Court” application on Monday – NTV
